The Advisory Board

The title of this piece, The Advisory Board, is the third drawing of the Donk’ Trilogy, perhaps a play on asses in Corporate America. The Advisory Board follows The Board of Directors and The Executive Session. More importantly it is a tribute to the wild free roaming burros and donkeys. They are living symbols of the historic and pioneer spirit of the West. They are becoming lost in the romantic vision of the West and have become the unseen ones.

Each year, millions of burros and donkeys are being slaughtered to produce ejiao, a medicinal gelatin that is made from boiling the skins of the animals. The burro and donkey skin trade is now decimating the global populace. Donkey-hide glue is a key ingredient in traditional Chinese remedies. It is derived from the gelatin found in burro and donkey hides.

Perhaps no animal has given as much to humans as the gentle burro and donkey. As packers and all-around great companions, their light footprint and capacity for giving is unsurpassed. Burros and donkeys contributed to the opening of the West. They deserve our respect and to have a home on the range.

The Advisory Board
Acrylic on Metal

These wild donkeys, The Advisory Board, is the third drawing of the Donk’ Trilogy. They are drawn on cold pressed steel using acrylic paint pens and my version of stippling. The background metal is rusted and painted. Allowing the paint to mix with the rust creates a unique, weathered color and expression. The edges are wrapped in patinaed copper. The back is finished and has D- Rings for hanging. Overall size is Approximately 26” X 50”
