Colorado Cowgirl - 1889
Colorado Cowgirl - 1889
Colorful Colorado was nicknamed the "Centennial State" because it became a state in the year 1876, 100 years after the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Colorado is noted for its magnificent landscape scenery of mountains, forests, high plains, mesas, canyons, plateaus, rivers, and desert lands. It is a state known for healthy living fueled by fresh mountain air and plenty of sunshine.
Colorado has become a capital for the ranching industry. Communities all over the state have operated ranches, and Denver hosts the National Western Stock Show. The cowgirl is an intricate part of the industry. Cowgirls are women who don’t give up on her dreams. They are strong willed, hard working, capable, and can rope and ride with the best of 'em. These gals in some cases can out-rope and out-ride the cowboys
I have combined antique maps with my version of stippling into my own creative perspectives. The background for this drawing of a cowgirl with braid is on an original map of Colorado, published in 1889.
