The American Buffalo was named the national mammal of the United States on May 9, 2016. This majestic animal joins the ranks of the Bald Eagle as the official symbol of our country—and much like the eagle, they're a symbol of our American identity.
The American Buffalo is an inspiring symbol of America's strength and resilience and is revered as sacred by many Native American tribes, whose rich culture and history plays such an important role. It is fitting and appropriate that the bison be adopted as the national mammal of the United States.
The American Buffalo is a symbol of the Great Spirit’s wisdom and generosity to the Native Americans of the Plains. As long as the buffalo roamed free and bountiful, the Plains Indians were able to remain independent. The Native Americans People of the plains were spiritually and physically interconnected with the American Buffalo.
The American Buffalo is spiritually the symbolic power to align with the spirit of inner strength, there is a place within us all that provides the power to endure and overcome far more than we realize. As the buffalo roams, it leads us on a journey of discovery, strength and endurance
