Welcome to
the chaotic and often strange life of Dan Abernathy. This is my
platform for random thoughts, often meandering and incomplete, rants,
praise, love, words of no meaning, and words of too much meaning. This
is my voice. It is my collection of oddities, fascinations,
photographs, desires, and obsessions – a road map of sorts, tracking a
vagabond who walks in dreams of a pure, hedonistic life. This is a
place to keep those interested informed not only of what's happening in
my life, but also what is igniting in the gray matter of my mind.
Hopefully, you will get a glimpse into the state of my chaos and
confusion. Here there are no rules! By entering and staying, you will
be opening doors to my mind and looking in. Some will find this venture
entertaining and filled with wonderment. The unknowing or unwilling to
know will find pure confusion, fear, and bewilderment.
This blog is a
love letter to
everyone and anyone that may choose to
spend some time here. It is a love letter as true love is honest and
that is all you will find here, 98% honesty of who and what I am. The
other 2% is going to the beyond with me, so the scholars and naysayers
can figure the last bit out.

When
harboring negative emotions,
when we intentionally generate pain for
others,
we only poison our own physical and spiritual being.

No
Vacancy
Driving from city A - to - town B, the road
stays straight with no detour through the lost and abandoned towns of
yesterday’s laughter and life. The old doors are boarded shut, the
windows closed but broken, the dust and weeds have blown in, built up
in an attempt to hide the human clutter, perhaps trying to reclaim
itself. There might be one maybe two business that have not locked
their doors. If so it will be an old gas station with stale chips and a
broken reach-in cooler, and a bar. The bar is always the last business
to be gone. Often the open sign never gets flipped to read “CLOSED” as
fear of the omen of not reopening scares the proprietor. There are no
road signs tempting you to pull in and no cute advertisements for a
picturesque bed & breakfast. No rest rooms to relieve a passing
bladder, no food, no Big Gulp, just dust and lonely with a washed out
and faded sign by the old hotel with the empty pool filled with
garbage. The only tenets here in this dilapidated hotel are the rats
that dart in and out. The only advertisement is the broken neon sign
long past the buzz and hiss stage reading, No Vacancy – People wanted!
