The Life and Times

This would be the random thoughts, often meandering and incomplete, of Dan Abernathy. A place to keep everyone up on what's going on in my life and how my mind is working, or what state of chaos and confusion that I am in. Here are my thoughts, rants, introductions, new images and projects I am working on and anything else that I want to place here. Here there are no rules! This will be like opening up the mind of Dan Abernathy and looking in, for some entertaining, and wonderment. For others fear and bewilderment.

Be advised; I am a atrocious speller and for this I apologies, but I am also to old to really care, or try to learn how to be better. I rely on spell check and friends to proof my spelling, If you find something smile let me know, I'll be smiling when I hear it. Thanks dan.

Measurement
A walk for purifying the soul, weather it is along a beach, fallowing a stream, or in the midst of a forest should be measured in footsteps, not time.

Love is a Process
I love you means nothing if it does not exude from you with truth and meaning. Each of us harbors love and compassion within ourselves. Love is an inner process that is giving and has nothing to do with what is received. To love is to practice the most important thing in life. It is living with the wondrous feeling of affection without asking, or expecting anything in return. Giving love without expectations, without conditions in all walks of life will lead us to a higher bliss.
There is no ownership or possession with love. Seek a life where your love can be set free and in doing so, with enjoyment; all your relationships will flourish. Ownership is a life inhibitor. No one but you and your soul has a right to control your live. With giving true love you create freedom and space for everyone. I will love, I want to love and I ask nothing in return. If I expect anything then my passion for affection is not true and I have to look within and discard the corrupt elements that hinder me from my true focus.
This concept is not limited to a single relationship. It is true in very aspect in life. With your family, your children, your friends and coworkers, even strangers on the street can feel your love and benefit from it.  Loving is to know that you do not have to understand and that is fine. You do not have to think the way I do, nor I you. In fact we don't have to think at all. It just is. When we can accept this, life becomes magical. Love what is and do so without restrictions and do not worry about understanding. Just know love is right. - dba

If you flip off the phone with your middle finger

or stick your tongue out at the phone,
will the person you are talking to know it?

Sex, Cats, Dogs and Wonder
When you are having sex,
when you are making love,
when you are fucking
and there is a dog in the room watching,
does it know what you are doing?
I also wonder why cats leave the room
when people fuck. - dba

And we should consider every day lost on which we
have not danced at least once. And we should call
every truth false, which was not accompanied
by at least one laugh.

Schedules
Why do we have to have this age-old schedule of eating at certain times, sleeping at certain times and playing at certain times? Why has everyone living in this civilized world that we call society become so regimented and in order? We need to jiggle things up, rearrange the way we live and de-evolve from what is the so-called right way to perform. We should eat when we are hungry, sleep when we are sleepy, play when we want to, and be happy all the time. - dba

It's not enough to have lived. We should be determined to live for something. May I suggest that it be creating joy for others, sharing what we have for the betterment of person kind, bringing hope to the lost, and love to the lonely.

One of the most moving moments I felt at Arlington was when I stood and looked at the grave marker for Robert Kennedy. Its simplicity made it stand out above all the rest.

Water Skippers
I stood at the edge of a very small pond watching water skippers floating and frolicking on the water. There was a slight breeze blowing so when they drifted from the bank where the tall grass gave them some protection they had an extremely hard time maneuvering in the open water. I noticed two of these water skippers traveling to different sides of the pond. They were kicking hard and fighting a crosswind that was awful strong for these little light creatures. Drifting into a collision course they finally rammed into each other head on. They both stopped for a moment and I think apologized to each other. I kept my eye on them and a while later they met each other again only this time they started skipping and dancing together. I think they started establishing a courtship as they started holding hands. Then right before some raindrops started splashing in the pond these two skippers started to make love, no they were fucking in a wild, crazy, frenzied act of passion. They were swapping sides, skipping, jumping, diving and it looked to me like they were deep in ecstasy and having one hell of a good time. I started feeling a little aroused, and slightly voyeuristic. They didn't seem to mind me being at the waters edge and I was in plan sight, but I still walked away thinking maybe I had learned a thing or two. I guess everything can be a teacher if you look hard enough. - dba

What's Fashionable for Death
If we think about thoughts, would a thought enter our minds? What if the thought that arrived was what should be worn for a suicide? What would be fashionable for death? Would the attire you wear solely depend on the method you choose for you demise? I wonder what… - dba

Take it Head On
There is a different mindset waiting for us and if we really want to be the true person that we are we must set a collision course to find it. Do not veer to the left. Do not swerve to the right. Just hold on tight and hit it head on. - dba

Go Away With Me
If you can’t go away with me,
then fallow me where I go.
I’ll show you where I’ll be
and this can be the first day of my life.

It Feels Good
It feels good to run nude in the woods. It feels good to dive in a lake and sit on a sun baked rock. It feels good to let the sun wrap around your body and warm your skin. It is a feeling of freedom, a revolt against a society corrupted by religious beliefs that try to force us into believing something is wrong with us. The only thing that is really wrong with us is we started to believe everyone else was right. Stop! Know that you are right and there is nothing wrong with feeling good and enjoying it. - dba

Highway Massacre
Driving home on a long dark desolated highway after an evening of wine, I saw the glimpse, the flash of a snow-white jackrabbit as he bolted across the highway. Then, I heard the thump and it astounded me as my breath left my lungs. The Credence Clearwater Revival jamming on the stereo, went quite as the thump echoed into the night. I have to be honest and a few more miles down the road the highway massacre was forgotten. The miles let it fade away. The next morning when I went out to my snow white, but dirty car, I saw the splattered blood next to the point of impact. I stood in disbelief as I stared at the contrasting colors. It took a carwash to remove the thoughts this time. Denial and unaccountability, our societies free pass! - dba

Ravens
The raven has been a mystical symbol throughout time, depicting both good and evil. There is a uniqueness seeing a raven fly, wondering if it is going to the other side, or coming back. Their wisdom is great and now they are seen everywhere. They have infiltrated our towns and cities across the west. Is this mass appearance a sign to the death and decay? When their count out numbers the human count will it be the end of what we know? Ravens will be forever, they will survive off the last piece of human flesh and share it with the cockroaches scurrying out of nowhere. - dba

Nothing is Real
Nothing is real to me anymore. I'm not really sure that it ever has been. The world around me, my world, has been reconceived until nothing is as it should be. How will I feel, how will I perceive my surroundings when snow turns black, rain is red and the sky glows purple? - dba

Dr. Seuss for President

As I was In Washington DC, the epicenter of chaos, I fund it only fitting to get the Japanese primeval symbol for chaos on my back. As I was with friends and we made it a type of spiritual quest, for body alteration, Dave had his ear piercing from the 70s reopened and Laura had her nose pierced. Click on the photo to see the documentation that Dave and I did of the whole the spectacular event.

Continuing the Journey
You have all that you need, all that is required to find lasting happiness. There is no need to be anyone other then who you are, which is sometimes an escape from what others want you to be. Befriend your fears, your desires, and your shame. These block us from our natural state of mind, a mind that should be filled with joy and is courageously and awake. Release yourself from your agitated mind and discover the joy of a calm natural mind. Continue the journey of you the person that you are, and you will become who you are intended to be. - dba
